Greek Exploration

Let's talk about travel!

I had the opportunity to travel to Greece over my J-term break in college. Growing up, I had the privilege to travel to other countries, not just for vacation but for mission work. Medical and outreach mission work. Greece was a trip to explore a new culture and diversity, and I was eager to expand my knowledge. This trip showed me different perspectives on a country built on a rich history.

Traveling to Greece took almost three days. I visited Santorini, where I learned their off-season cultures of island development and ways of living. Meeting people who value family and their country's flourishment in development. Greek people were among the kindest and most admirable people I have ever met. They were such welcoming and curious people who wanted to sit with me and learn what it was like in the United States. But I also wanted to answer my questions about what was so unique about living in Greece. Greek people are very hard workers, and it was an honor to see them work to build their country into something that will thrive. Santorini opened a new door of possibilities and put me into perspective the generosity and work ethic Sanrorini had to offer.

While in Greece, I also went to Athens, the capital of Greece. There, I visited temples and ancient landmarks while experiencing the city streets and markets they had to offer. I learned the rich history of Athens and what it meant to be a part of the culture. Once again, I was met with inviting and genuine people. Opening doors through conversations with others about what opportunities they've had and what opportunities they're creating for themselves and their country. I was able to learn and see face to face what Athens was built on and the people it contains. Showing me how amazing it is to learn and grow knowledge of other cultures, beliefs, and values.

Greece was a trip of a lifetime. Not because it was a vacation but because it was an experience of culture. Cultural foods, backgrounds, languages, and much more. Santorini and Athens gave me a window to look through of how wonderful the people are and the history the country has to offer and show others who visit. I am grateful to bring more knowledge and history to my home and share it with others. Traveling is an experience to get to know people and share conversations of experiences and knowledge. This is why I love conversations. I learn about diversity and see others for them and their life stories.
